Siemens offers a comprehensive retrofit program for Siemens and external products. This program reaches from simple modifications and upgrades to the exchange of individual components right up to complex retrofit projects.

As a result of the age of the SIMOVERT ML1/ML2 converters, the supply of spare parts is already restricted. If a failure occurs, it is possible that plant downtimes will not be able to be immediately resolved. That’s why Siemens recommends to replace older or heavily used devices by SINAMICS SM150 or the Upgrade of the control unit to SINAMICS SM150 (only for ML2).

If a failure occurs, it is possible that plant downtimes will not be able to be immediately resolved. That’s why Siemens recommends to replace older or heavily used devices by SINAMICS GM150 or SINAMICS PERFECT HARMONY GH150/GH180.

To ensure the functionality and availability of the previously delivered units on the different plants, there is the option of replacing complete devices.

SIMOVERT D converters can be replaced by the SINAMICS SL150 of the new SINAMICS product series. The existing motor can usually remain in use. Here, it has to be clarified whether maintenance is required for further safe operation.

Upgrades

The units-of-production of SIMOVERT D direct converters consist of very robust modules (thyristors). Experience shows that the service life of the thyristors is longer than that of the control electronics. The life of the control electronics is usually 10 years. In order to be able to continue to use the units-of-production, Siemens offers a conversion of the entire control electronics to a design from the current SINAMICS development series.

SIMOVERT D type 6QC6 (SITOR modules)

In order to be able to continue to use the units-of-production, Siemens offers a conversion of the entire control electronics to a specially developed design of the SINAMICS SL150.

SIMOVERT D type 6SD28 (stacks)

For the SIMOVERT D type 6SD28, Siemens offers the conversion of the entire control electronic to a current design of the present SINAMICS development series.

With this replacement, the entire drive is generally completely modernized whilst maintaining the most important performance components. In the process, the power modules are also checked, for example, for possible environmentally-caused or operational influences.

Upgrades – update to state-of-the-art electronics (NXG Pro)

SINAMICS PERFECT HARMONY GH180 is a medium voltage drive system, which has been built and sold since 1994. The system has been continuously improved over several generations. In the process, the control electronics have also been reengineered in order to offer more performance and to be able to respond to module phase-outs. Although there are still spare parts for older generations, the guaranteed availability is only 10 years after product phase-out. The new control electronic NXG Pro was already introduced in 2014. An update of the control electronics (NXG Pro) continuous to guarantee the ability to deliver, especially of all spare parts and offers:

  • Higher performance (control performance)
  • Guaranteed spare parts availability
  • Reduced maintenance effort
  • Reduction of the required power supply units from three different voltages to only one supply

Through a retrofit to the new generation our customers benefit from all the improvements without having to miss reliability.

Replacement of SINAMICS PERFECT HARMONY GH180 Gen I (formerly Perfect Harmony Gen I) air-cooled
Air-cooled SINAMICS PERFECT HARMONY GH180 (formerly Perfect Harmony Gen I) from generation I can be replaced by models of generations IIIe and IV.

Replacement of SINAMICS PERFECT HARMONY GH180 Gen II (formerly Perfect Harmony Gen II) air-cooled
Air-cooled SINAMICS PERFECT HARMONY GH180 (formerly Perfect Harmony Gen II) from generation II can be replaced by models of generations IIIe and IV.

Replacement of SINAMICS PERFECT HARMONY GH180 Gen III (formerly Perfect Harmony Gen III) air-cooled
Air-cooled SINAMICS PERFECT HARMONY GH180 (formerly Perfect Harmony Gen III) from generation III can be replaced by models of generations IIIe, IV, IVe and V.

Replacement of Silcovert H (Ansaldo Ross Hill and Hill-Graham Controls)
These current intermediate circuit converters can be replaced by SINAMICS GL150 or SINAMICS PERFECT HARMONY GH180.
